Creation of the Department of Microbiology
On June 29, 2004, the Division of the Biological Sciences celebrated the reemergence of the Department of Microbiology and the appointment of Dr. Olaf Schneewind as Chairman with a reception held in the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine. The event was marked by speeches from both Dean James Madara and Dr. Laurens Mets, Chairman, Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology, who toasted the department’s history and promising future with Dr. Schneewind at the helm.
