AWARDS
Jean-Luc Benoit, MD, assistant professor of medicine, received the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Faculty Award.

Jerry Coyne, PhD, a professor of ecology and evolution, is one of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences fellows for this year.

Olufunmilayo Olopade, MD, professor of medicine and the director of the Cancer Risk Clinic, was elected a member at-large to the American Society of Breast Disease, for her work with breast cancer research.

Monica Peek, M.D., MPH, assistant professor of medicine, was named to the African American National Advisory Council of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists.

K. Luan Phan, MD, assistant professor of psychiatry, was awarded the L.D.H. Wood Preclerkship Teaching Award, based on nominations and voting from second-year Pritzker students.

Lou Philipson, MD, PhD, professor of medicine, received the National Disease Research Interchange’s Outstanding Scientist Award 2007 for "contributions to the screening, diagnosis and treatment of new subtypes of diabetes."

Robert L. Rosenfield, MD, professor of pediatrics and medicine, was installed as president of the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society (LWPES) at its meeting May 4–6, 2007. He and other members of the pediatric endocrinology section, Elizabeth Littlejohn, MD, and Brian Bordini, MD, presented the results of current research from a project at LWPES scientific sessions. The research papers to be presented are: "Pubertal Milestone Attainment in Normal-Weight Girls," "Both Insulin Sensitivity and Disposition Index Fall during Normal Female Puberty without a Change in Glucose Tolerance" and "Blunted Sleep-Related LH in Early Pubertal Overweight Healthy Girls."

John Schumann, MD, assistant professor of medicine, received the University of Chicago nomination for the Association of American Medical Colleges Humanism in Medicine Award in October. He was recognized for that nomination at the Gold Humanism Honor Society on March 8.

Readers of Medical Imaging, a trade magazine for radiologists, selected Roberto M. Lang, MD, professor of medicine, director of noninvasive cardiac imaging labs and director of the cardiology fellowship program, as one of the 10 best people in cardiovascular imaging in the second annual survey of the “Medical Imaging Industry Top 10”. Lang made the list in 2006 as well. The magazine also noted that Dianna Bardo, MD, assistant professor of radiology, was second runner up in the category: “outstanding practicing radiologists,” which is based on current research, cutting-edge techniques, patient care and outcomes, and industry interaction.
